My name is Greg Vickas. I am an experienced registered architect, town planning consultant and retired licensed builder. About five years ago I investigated the viability and benefits of installing a photovoltaic electric power system on the roof of my home and business address in inner Sydney. While the physical circumstances were almost perfect, I concluded at that time the likely cost of around $30,000 could not be justified, even considering the environmental benefits such a system could provide.

But, earlier this year I decided to review the situation after hearing about recent changes to pricing structures and government assistance for such domestic solar power systems. After considerable research and deliberation, I concluded that the situation had changed so radically I would have to be mad not to proceed with the installation of a solar power system. The gross price of average-sized domestic systems had dropped to between $10,000 and $15,000, while energy credits now attached to such systems could be sold immediately for between $3,000 and $5,500, thereby reducing the net price to between $4,500 and $12,000. In addition, I was strongly influenced by the fact that the NSW Government had introduced a compulsory gross tariff “buy-back” system, which would mean I would be able to sell the electricity my system generated for around three times what it cost me to acquire back from my electricity provider. In other words, with good management our yearly electricity costs could become zero!

I determined that a solar power system for my house with a rating of 1.5 – 2.0 kWH’s could not only pay for itself within 4 – 5 years, it would also generate tax-free income for my family, plus make a major contribution to lowering greenhouse gas emissions, plus add considerable value to our property.

After carefully researching and assessing the field of photovoltaic electric power system contractors, I finally commissioned Enviren Solar Power to install a system specifically designed for our circumstances. The reasons I chose Enviren were simple: (i) evidenced experience and expertise; (ii) excellent pre-sale service; (iii) high-quality products; (iv) ability and willingness to tailor a system to specified needs; (v) candour and honesty in quoting; and, not least of all, (vi) excellent pricing and value for money.

Enviren’s installation service proved to be well managed, flexible and skilled, and the company installed a high- quality system in one day with extraordinary efficiency. Since then the company has also provided excellent after- sales contact and follow-through to ensure optimum system performance. What else can I say? Just one word: Enviren.

In early 2010 I initiated discussions with Enviren Solar Power [ESP] regarding the domestic application of Solar Power Panels. As my home is a heritage listed property, any installation required local council approval to ensure the installation was assessed in terms of visual presentation at the roof line and from-the-street, and ultimately, product and installation quality. With confidence in the people I was talking with at ESP, I signed off on the installation. ESP had ensured I fully understood and was comfortable with all aspects of the installation. The Renewable Energy Cerificates rebate policy,  the installation/performance warranties and the Utility Services hook up and agreement. Work proceeded on the agreed installation date and was completed without delay. The energy efficiency of my Solar Power System is confirmed each quarter by the rebate cheque I receive. 

What impressed me the most with ESP was the people I dealt with. Whilst I may have dealt with up to 6 individuals involved in the full process, from initial contact, quoting, installation and follow up review and operating assessment, everybody always knew all aspects/status of the job, on any occasion I contacted ESP. The standard and quality of the overall installation was first class. However, dealing with a team of outstanding people in the process, is what service and customer satisfaction is all about."
